The Tenant Eviction Ban has been extended
The ban on tenant evictions has been extended.
The ban on eviction notices was due to end today (11.01.21) but has been extended again for at least 6 weeks in England. Whilst the move is unsurprising to most, landlords and agents are unhappy with the short notice given.
This marks the fourth extension to the eviction ban that first started in March 2020 at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. The last ban implemented in 2020 also gave landlords an obligation to provide a six-month notice period for tenants.
No evictions can take place in England until 8th March 2021, The Ministry of housing has confirmed. Worries are mounting about the backlog courts will face once the ban is lifted. Landlords are calling for more financial support for tenants to ensure they can stay in their homes indefinitely and prevent mass homelessness once the eviction ban is lifted.
